How To Set A Creative Table for several guests
I LOVE to entertain and since our immediate family is pretty large, I have to make sure I have room for at least 10 of us....
This is our outside covered porch and sits up to "14" people easily. These tables and benches are antique wedding tables I bought years ago because I just couldn't find the right table I wanted to be able to let that many people eat together without putting out too many tables.
Yes the wood is protected from the elements, and this is how it looks when not being used. The centerpiece changes through the season, but that is about it....until we get ready to use it!
Ready for Fall
Now that fall is arriving here in Houston, we LOVE to entertain on our porch and watch the beautiful scenery and sunsets.
I LOVE to collect dishes, place mats, napkins, cutlery, glasses, etc....because for me it is all about the unexpected and don't like to matchey matchey. So I just grab whatever theme by "color" I want and just start layering...just like I do my fashion, jewelry and my home.
No matter how many people you plan on serving, add a place mat (heck, sometimes I even use slabs of wood, cement tiles, whatever I think will make a fun statement). Then I grab a charger, a dinner plate, and a dessert plate (sometimes a soup bowl---depending on what is being served). Throw in a napkin, and what is even more fun is when they don't all match! I didn't get real formal on this outing, so I just put the silverware across the plates.
One thing I always make sure of is that each setting is like its own little vignette, so that each person feels special. Here I used, small plants, pumpkins, and candles---for each place setting! Always add a little something for each person....that is why when I shop I tend to find "little" things I think would be great as a table setting. You can find some great things at even the Dollar Store just for this purpose!
We have great mood lighting over our tables, using these LED battery operated lanterns....you can really use anything, but I prefer these. They hang just high enough so that there is good lightning, but they do not obstruct anyone's view. I HATE when I am sitting at a table and have to "peer" around something to talk to the person opposite me!
Also we only have "buffet" style entertaining both for family and friends....so, next time I will show you how to set up a fun and creative buffet for your guests to serve themselves!
From our home to yours...xoxo debi
